Genesis: Noah's Ark

Today's lesson is about Noah and the ark God told him to build. Noah did it, EXACTLY as God told him to... and it saved him! Today's project is a booklet that the kids will fill in the blanks as we talk about the Bible lesson. My kids have learned about Noah a lot already, so the fill-in-blanks should help them remember the little details from Genesis. I have included the scripture in case you want to have kids use their Bibles and find the answers themselves. But, I like having a Bible lesson straight from the Bible anyway. There's not a better place to get the answers!

This is the table visual my husband made for me several years ago. There is a train car on the top so the kids can understand the scale.

Bible Verse: But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord. Genesis 6:8 (NKJV)
Lesson: After a long time, God saw that the people on the earth were evil all the time, God was sorry that He created man. God said that He was going to destroy man and the animals because He was sorry that He made them.
Today's Bible verse says: (GB 2.2) But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord. Noah  obeyed God. He had 3 sons named Shem, Ham and Japheth. God told Noah that the people on the earth were so bad and that He is going to destroy them. “Make yourself an ark of gopher wood.” God told Noah exactly how to build it and exactly how big to build it, exactly what to use, exactly how many floors, windows and doors. [Show diagram to further discuss. It was 300 cubits long, 50 cubits wide and 30 cubits high, 3 floors, 1 door on the side & 1 window.]
Thus Noah did; according to all that God commanded him, so he did. (6:22) Noah didn't pick and choose what he wanted, or what he felt like doing. He did all that God said to do.
It took Noah and his sons 120 years to build the ark.
(GB 2.5) God said “I am going to bring a flood and destroy everything, except for you, your wife, your sons and their wives. I want you to bring a male and female of every animal and keep them alive on the ark.
I want you to take enough food that will be needed to eat for you, your family and the animals.” So Noah did what God commanded him. No questions, no whining, he just did it. (vs. 22)
God told Noah to go onto the ark. He was to take 7 each male/female of the clean animals, 2 each male/female of the unclean. 7 each of the bird’s male/female.

(GB 2.4) Noah was 600 years old when God flooded the earth. It took 7 days for the animals to go onto the ark. (vs. 4) They went 2 by 2, male & female. (vs. 9) God shut the door of the ark. (GB 2.6) It rained for 40 days and 40 nights and covered everything. (GB 2.7) Everything that was not in the ark died. (GB2.8) The water picked up the ark and it floated.
God made a wind pass over the earth to help dry it faster, the waters settled in the earth and it stopped raining. There was water on the earth for 150 days. The ark came to a stop on Mount Ararat.
(GB 5.9) After 40 days, Noah sent out a (1) raven. Then he sent out a (2) dove, but it came back since there wasn’t any place dry for it to rest.
After another 7 days passed, he sent out another (3) dove and it brought back an olive leaf. After another 7 days, he sent out the (4) dove and it didn’t return. That meant there was someplace it could make a home.
(GB 2.10) Noah took off the covering from the ark and looked to find the ground was dry. If you add up all the days, they were on the ark for 1 year! God told Noah to leave the ark with his family and all the animals.
(GB 2.11) Noah built an alter and offered sacrifices to God.
God was pleased with Noah and put a rainbow in the sky. He said it is His promise to man that He would never destroy the earth with water again. Every time you see the rainbow in the cloud, it will remind Him and the people of His promise.
Noah lived 350 more years after the flood. He was 950 years old when he died!

Love in 1 Corinthians 13

You know that a banging cymbal is Loud and annoying! And Paul says that isn't love. He said that it doesn’t matter how wise you are… if you don’t have love, then you don’t have anything.
1.Patient & Kind [verses 3 & 4] Paul said even if he gave everything he has to feed the poor, there would not be a profit (an advantage or reward) without love.
Paul is saying to share and give with the right heart and with love. He wants you to give freely and not resent what you are giving.
2. Jealous Love does not envy, does not parade itself and is not puffed up. Love isn’t jealous of what others have, and if you have things that others want, you shouldn’t make your friends jealous because you have it.
3. Boast Love is not proud or big headed. That also means boasting or bragging. Accept what you have, what God has given you. Be happy, not "I want this and that".
4. Not Rude or Mean [verse 5] Love does not behave rudely. Love is not impolite or mean. Love doesn’t do things that we’ll regret or be ashamed of later. Discuss being mean.

5. Care About Others Love does not seek its own. Love doesn’t look out for their own interests or just themselves. That also includes grabbing things from people. Or interrupting when someone is talking. Love cares about other people’s needs.

 6. Controls Temper  Love is not provoked. That means that Love doesn’t become angry easily. Love is forgiving. Take time to let your temper cool down. Don’t hold grudges.
Love thinks no evil. Discuss anger and what angers the students and what they can do to control it.

7. Good Thoughts (verse 6) Does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth. Iniquity is sin, or doing sinful things that God doesn't like. And, just the opposite is to be happy to do what is right.

8. Same As Scripture [verses 7-8]
Love bears all things. (Love accepts and protects.)
Love believes all things. (Love trusts)
Love hopes all things. (Love always has hope.)
Love never fails. (Love puts up with things and never gives up.) If you love someone or something, you never stop trying. Love is patient, willing to listen and take the time to pay attention.

9. Three Look at today's Bible verse 13. There’s faith, hope and love;
Faith is believing in Jesus and knowing that He will do what’s best for us.
Hope is knowing that we will be with Jesus in Heaven.
And  God is love! Love never ends.
We have faith in what Jesus taught us, and we know that if we do everything He commands, we will go to Heaven with Him.
10. Greatest is Love BUT the greatest of these is love. Why? Finally, the Bible tells us that love keeps no record of wrongs. You have a piece of paper in front of you. Pretend that this is a list you’ve been making of things that bother you about other people. Let’s tear it up. Rip it to little pieces! Now there’s nothing standing in the way of you loving others.
Love thinks good things, and if you are thinking good things, you will do good things. Slow down and see if there’s something you can do to help someone …  You show your love by how you act and treat others.

Creative activit--Rock Craft

With just a few supplies -- paint, glue, and clay -- children can transform the stones they stumble across into animals, people, or toys.

Both tempera and acrylic paints work well for rock craft projects; tempera looks chalkier but washes off easily, making it the best choice for kids. Acrylic paint has a glossy finish. Before painting, kids should sketch out their plan: It's easier to envision what the finished project will look like if they draw it first with pencil on paper.

The stones pictured here are as distinctive as people. One is slender; another, dappled and rotund. Family members can paint their initials on the rocks that suit them and turn them into refrigerator magnets.

Glue rocks together before painting them, attaching small stone features such as eyes, feet, or beaks to body parts before joining larger parts; attach whiskers and tails after painting. Cement glue makes the strongest bond but should be used only by parents working in a well-ventilated area. (Kid-friendly glues are less durable and are best for rock crafts that will sit on shelves.

You can start with just simple things to make them different and with a lot of fun with your kids!
